Some products leave an acrylic or polymer film designed to add shine. Repeated applications can create layers.
Removal must protect the finish
Aggressive chemicals or abrasion can damage the polyurethane you are trying to save, so the process should be tested.
Expect variation
Heavy traffic areas may have thinner buildup while edges and low-traffic areas may hold more layers.
What is underneath
After removal, the original finish may look excellent, may need a Screen & Recoat, or may reveal damage that requires sanding.
Do not coat over unknown residue
Professional finish should not be applied until compatibility and adhesion concerns are addressed.
